How To Treat Varicocele? Common Four Treatments
There are many treatments for varicocele, do patients and their families know about them? Varicocele will affect the health of patients. 60% of men will also affect their fertility after having this disease. We should pay attention to it.
What are the common treatments for varicocele?
1. Open surgical treatment
(1) Through the inguinal canal
The high ligation of the internal spermatic vein through the inguinal canal has the same incision as the hernia repair. The spermatic cord is exposed, and the main trunk of the internal spermatic vein and its branches are found and ligated. This surgical approach is simple and commonly used. It can simultaneously ligate the dilated external spermatic vein and testicular efferent vein. If an operating microscope is used during the operation, the effect is better, the recurrence rate is low, and the complications are few, but it is prone to incomplete ligation or accidental injury. Testicular artery and other problems.
(2) via the iliac fossa
An oblique incision was made in the left lower abdomen, the peritoneum was pushed open, and the internal spermatic vein was ligated in the retroperitoneum and front of the external iliac artery. The advantage is that it does not affect the structure of the inguinal canal, and it can be ligated at the main spermatic vein, so the ligation is complete; if the internal spermatic artery is accidentally injured here, it will not cause testicular atrophy.
2. Minimally invasive surgical treatment
Laparoscopic treatment of varicocele has been carried out more at home and abroad. This method is simpler than open surgery, and it is also effective and has fewer complications. The spermatic artery can be protected from being accidentally ligated under microsurgical techniques, and the simultaneous bilateral operation does not require a second incision.
3. Interventional therapy
Insert the catheter through the inferior vena cava and left renal vein to the left internal spermatic vein, then inject 5% sodium morrhuate or gelatin sponge and steel ring, and embolize this vein to treat varicocele. The disadvantage is that those with vein malformation or collateral circulation are not suitable for embolization, and special equipment is required. This method is now rarely used.
4. Non-surgical treatment
Mild varicocele with mild symptoms and no complications should first take non-surgical treatment, including scrotal support, local cold compress, and avoiding excessive sexual intercourse to reduce the congestion of the venous plexus. Give explanations to those with symptoms of neurasthenia to reduce the mental burden, and give the appropriate amount of sedatives if necessary.
The above are the four commonly used treatment methods for varicocele, including open surgery, minimally invasive surgery, interventional therapy, and non-surgical treatment. We should choose the treatment method that suits us according to our condition.
